Inquiry across the structures of human thought, institutions and collective life.
Research Programs
Our programs bring related questions into sustained fields of inquiry, allowing individual studies, lectures, papers and specialist contributions to accumulate into broader bodies of knowledge.
-
The study of complex systems through mathematical structure, empirical data and formal models. Research in this program encompasses mathematical modeling, probability, statistics, game theory, optimization, forecasting, computational methods and the analysis of large and complex datasets. Particular emphasis is placed on constructing models capable of clarifying patterns, testing assumptions and examining how systems behave under changing conditions.
-
The study of power, institutions and the conduct of states across time. Research in this program examines strategic competition, diplomacy, political order, military thought, institutional resilience and the historical forces that continue to shape international affairs.
-
The study of language as both an inherited structure and an instrument of thought. This program investigates etymology, historical linguistics, semantic change, rhetoric, language acquisition and the psychological processes through which words are perceived, remembered and interpreted. Particular attention is given to the relationship between language, cognition, culture and the formation of conceptual frameworks.
-
Research into the systems increasingly governing how knowledge, influence and authority move through modern societies. Areas of inquiry include artificial intelligence, information systems, media, propaganda, technological competition and the changing relationship between human judgment and technological power.
-
The systematic study of perception, judgment and human behavior. Research in this program examines attention, memory, learning, decision-making, motivation, social cognition and behavioral adaptation through experimental, theoretical and comparative approaches. Its work considers both the mechanisms of individual cognition and the ways psychological processes operate within wider social and institutional environments.
-
The structures through which political authority, markets and institutions interact. Our work considers the development of economic systems, public institutions, commercial networks and the relationship between political organization and material power.
-
Contemporary institutions are often the visible surface of much older intellectual and historical developments. This program examines political thought, religion, philosophy, education, law, cultural inheritance and the ideas through which civilizations have understood themselves.
-
Institutions ultimately depend upon the people entrusted with them. This program examines leadership, administration, organizational behavior, elite formation, decision-making and the practical disciplines through which institutions preserve continuity while responding to change.
This course explores emerging fields at the frontiers of psychology, where new technologies, theories, and experimental methods are reshaping the study of the mind. Topics examine developing areas of research that connect psychology with neuroscience, computation, digital behavior, and other rapidly evolving disciplines.
When
Saturdays 9-10:30 AM
Grand Strategy is the study of how power is assembled, directed, and sustained in pursuit of consequential long-term aims. Moving beyond battlefield tactics or individual policy decisions, we will examine how leaders coordinate military strength, economic resources, diplomacy, intelligence, geography, alliances, and political influence to shape the strategic environment itself.
When
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:30-6:30 PM
This course examines how propaganda shapes perception and behavior through narrative, symbolism, media, and social reinforcement. Drawing on history, psychology, political theory, and communications, it explores how persuasive frameworks are constructed, transmitted, and used to shape how audiences interpret reality.
When
Mondays 9-10:30 AM
